Emma is an engaging, skilled, and compassionate psychotherapist. Neurodivergent herself, Emma has a unique understanding of seeing the world in a different way.
Emma is a qualified counsellor and play therapist and brings over 20 years’ experience of delivering psychotherapeutic interventions in schools, CAMHS, youth services, children’s Services, and youth justice and specialises in working with children and young people with complex needs. Emma’s approach is grounded in trauma-informed practice and built on a foundation of evidence based-models and contemporary research in child development. Emma’s previous roles in youth work, children’s rights and advocacy for children and young people means that her work is also rooted in the voice of the child.
Emma specialises in developmental trauma, attachment difficulties, neurodivergence and the emotional brain development of children and young people. Emma is trained and accredited in Play and Creative Arts Therapy, Schema Therapy and Therapeutic Life Story Work (Richard Rose Model), integrative counselling approaches, Children’s Accelerated Trauma Therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy approaches, the Trauma Recovery Model, mindfulness Interventions, emotional freedom techniques, sensory integration, solution-focussed therapy, parent-baby bonding, and parent-child attachment Interventions.
As well as face to face direct work with children and young people, Emma offers support to parents and clinical supervision to therapists and other professionals working with children and young people. Emma is dedicated to ongoing professional development and currently engaging in Professional Doctorate in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Psychological Trauma at Chester University.
