At Pathways Learning, we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive educational environment that caters to the diverse needs of our learners. To achieve this, we implement the Zones of Regulation curriculum, which empowers students to identify and manage their emotions effectively. For those presenting with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), we utilise the PANDA approach from the PDA society, tailoring interventions to their unique challenges.
Our framework is guided by the SPELL principles—Structured, Positive, Empathetic, Low Arousal, and Links—which ensures a holistic approach to learning. All staff members have received training in Trauma-Informed practices, equipping them to respond sensitively to students’ experiences. The Autism Education Trust (AET) standards and competency frameworks are used to embed good autism practice across the whole learning environment.
We adopt a Positive Behaviour Support strategy to address behaviours that challenge, promoting a proactive rather than reactive stance. Additionally, our application of the TEACCH and SCERTS programmes fortifies our commitment to enhancing communication and social skills within our learning community.
The Autism Education Trust (AET) progression framework is used to identify learning priorities, set learning intentions and to measure progress in areas which relate closely to autism differences for each of our learners. These are reviewed termly and next steps identified for the following term.
